Not really, but sort of. Over the years, the recipe of the month Align Mitts have been one of my top patterns. To this day, my website gets more hits to the mitts than anything else and a lot of that is attributed to Very Pink’s tutorial. Of course, questions arise as thousands of hands stitch and wear these simple little mitts and I’ve been on the fence about how I would address/resolve these questions. Most of the time, I hear that knitters want a downloadable pattern. Folks want tips for pesky rolling hems on the Stockinette stitch side, and there are a lot of people wanting to work up a men’s size. I think I’ve finally come up with a solution that works for me, but also works for you! I want to keep the recipe free for all, but if I’m going to have a downloadable pattern with some tips and tutorials, that is written as a traditional pattern with another size, then I would like to be able to charge a bit for it.
The happy medium for me is that I’ll provide both - the recipe will stay on the website as is and I will offer a pattern for purchase also. The pattern has been adjusted so that the instructions aren’t so double pointed needle biased, I’ve added a men’s size, I’ve included tips for reducing the roll at the cast-on edge along with a tutorial for a reinforced hem for folks that love adding skills to their repertoire, and I’ve knit a new sample in some fun speckled yarn. I’ll have the new pattern ready to roll out just after Thanksgiving, but as a very special thank you to all of my newsletter subscribers, they will get a free copy of the new pattern sent straight to their inbox! If you still haven’t signed up for the newsletter, you have until November 22nd to do so.
I hope this will breathe some new life into the Align Mitts and for members of the Making Things App, I will be posting the new updated pattern there, also! It takes the Making Things team up to 3 weeks to get patterns posted to the app, but I have my fingers crossed that it will be available in time for you to knock out a pair for a holiday gift.
