Pastinaca... a Cowl or Shawlette or Sh-owl
You may remember a call for testers on Pastinaca . The testers did an absolutely wonderful job and I got some great feedback for the final pattern release. No, I didn’t forget.
Part cowl, part shawl, it can be worn with the long or short side in the front - or sideways - or tied like a scarf. Honestly, the options are what make it so much fun to wear.
Pastinaca will be going out to my newsletter subscribers on my FOURTEEN YEAR wedding anniversary — August 23rd. It will be a free download to my subscribers as a thank you for being so cool. The pattern will release for sale on my other wedding anniversary because we have two and it’s a whole weird story, so… anyways…. August 27th. If you’re wondering how Pastinaca got her name, just look at this silly creature! It’s a stingray, right?? Or, a pastinaca in Italian.
For me, part of the fun is learning and teaching new and unusual knitting techniques with my patterns. I don’t always throw in a “teachable moment” but, I do think about what techniques I’m using and if they’re going to be new to a majority of knitters when I design. This fun little accessory has a few techniques that may be new to budding knitters. First, there is a provisional cast-on, you will also need to work cables, twisted stitches, and my easy no-wrap short rows. Don’t forget to check out my tutorials page for step-by-step instructions for the short rows because they’re really pretty fantastic once you see how neatly they come together with no gaps, no weird extra long stitches, no having to tighten things up constantly… easy. no wrap. trust me.
So, keep a look out for Pastinaca on the 23rd for newsletter folks and the 27th for everyone else.
