wip.fo monday & weekend blunders

i’m here!  i mean, i made it.  phew!  hahaha

i am so blasted sick of being sick i can’t even tell you.  wednesday and thursday i was walking around feeling better - even did that last post at the wee hours into friday morning.  THEN!  friday i woke up with neck and shoulders stiff and sore & my head pounding so i thought, ok.  take some ibuprofin and get on with it.  and that’s what i did.  and i ate breakfast and sat on the couch with mae and all the while was feeling worse and worse.  then i puked my guts out.  fever kicked in and i slept until 2:30.  mae made me some lunch (grapes and goldfish crackers) & decided she’d had enough of this nonsense.  she suggested she visit with nana since they would be spending the day together on saturday any how.  what a funny and clever girl she is.  nana came to her rescue and i dove back into my fever-induced slumber.

saturday was more of the same - and hub’s birthday.  whoops.  he went out of town with his dad so the guilt was lifted a bit.

sunday came and i was crawling the walls!  mae and i grabbed nana and headed for the ima where we saw some some of this:

and some of this:

but really, most importantly, while laying about on saturday…  THIS HAPPENED!

i really enjoyed knitting this even if it may have been a personal record for dragging a project of this size out.  the details are just exquisite in this tiny gem & it was fun working the bottom up.  it gave my brain something new to process… and… i will say there was a thrill in finishing with three stitches.   here is the pattern link : andrea’s shawl

i hope everyone has a lovely monday! xo

wip.fo monday

remember that little green thing from last week?  it was my knit sketch as i often like to do and it became this!  pleats and arrows took shape with only one major alteration to the sketch.  the sleeves.  i was over it.  if i had to pick up those stitches one more time i was gonna start throwing needles like knives - so.  i do however have a grand plan for those sleeves but that will come later.

the details are the sweetest - and hardest to photograph of course.

so, now i just need to turn this:

into a pattern.  that people can read.

i casted on a test sock of that longitudinal pattern just to see what it was all about.  i LOVE it.  it’s the perfect sock for non-sock knitters or wanna-be sock knitters or knitters who love clever and inventive ways to construct things.  as i was working, the sock emerged from the fabric and i dare say it looked more like art than a sock.  i think i could hang it on my wall.

i have yarn on the way for the real deal socks, but i’ve realized i have a needle mystery on my hands and can’t find any of my circulars smaller than a US4.  DAMN.  i didn’t actually want to buy needles since i’ve just dumped (not quite) the month’s rent into yarn… you know, like i said i needed to.  hubs even said, “is that why you don’t usually take me with you to the yarn store?  that one little sweater has $40 in it already!”  when inspiration strikes… you know.

and speaking of inspiration, the next sweater is one i’m SUPER excited about!  i’ve only just begun swatching, but with alizah at her dad’s and mae off to camp this week i should have ample time to make major progress.

take care, all & i’ll see you wednesday with snippets. xo

wip.fo monday

hello sweet friends.  oh the things i have to share today.

for starts

the baby blanket for my mama’s friend is done and gone.  it turned out so perfectly sweet with the eyelets and picot edge.  perfection.

this mysterious little strip has already been transformed, but i think i’m going to hold off for a bit on sharing that.  i love the green.  it’s knitpicks wool of the andes pampas heather.

another mystery project and to be honest, it’s still a bit of a mystery to me as how i’ll pull it off. i guess when i know, you’ll know.  HA!

poor little lattice sweater.  i can’t get into the groove of this for some reason.  i must not be in the right mood - or i’m just seriously distracted.  school lets out on friday which is exciting and everyone is groaning about cutting the nights short to go to bed - because when it’s light at 9pm it still feels like there is life left in the day.  also, hubs lost his job a couple weeks ago quite abruptly.  he has already started another, but his line of work is very, very tricky.  i’m trying to stay positive during this transitional period.  trying.  once everything settles i know i will ease back in to my knitting and let the steady rhythm take me away to a place of inspiration rather than worry.  …back to lattice though… i even thought about buying yarn specifically for the project.  that usually gets me excited.  poor stash yarn.  i’ll wait another couple of weeks and see where the breeze takes me.

what a score!  i picked this up at half price books yesterday.  i was looking for something that might be good for the boy, but i like it so well he’s gonna have to make copies of the patterns he wants.  Ha!  this is MINE.

hubs spotted a sweater he wants right away (weird)

but i’m really into the vests

i’d love to shrink this to fit a boy.  i was thinking of you, mare!  and maybe the small would fit a woman with a few simple alterations.  after reading through the patterns i think my only *meh* is that they’re all knit so that there is quite a bit of finishing.  i hate seams.  LORD do i ever.  i think i can suffer through though.  all the items in this book are classic and beautifully shaped.  it’s so hard finding things for men that i think they would enjoy and my guy is the most difficult guy on earth to knit for.  how did i get so lucky?

so, with that i wish you all a happy monday.  i’ll be here tomorrow with some fun bits from our weekend. xo
